Not getting enough sleep
If you have a busy schedule, sleep is usually the first thing that gets neglected. Proper amount of sleep on a regular basis is important for your body to function properly. Lack of sleep has been proven to cause health issues such as depression, anxiety, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.
Being stressed out
Stress is a huge factor in premature aging as it can cause a domino effect on your health. If you are stressed you are more likely to have anxiety or overeat which ca lead to weight gain in addition to things like heart disease and diabetes. Stress can cause changes in your body such as premature gray hair and wrinkles. Take some time everyday to relax to make sure your stress doesn’t get the best of you.
Smoking
It may seem like a no brainer to some, but smoking has no benefit to your health. Inhaling nicotine can cause your lungs to deteriorate and your body to age faster than normal. While cutting an addiction can be very hard, it’s worth it. Give nicotine patches a try or go see your doctor to talk about ways for you to quit.
Drinking in excess
Drinking a lot of alcohol can cause problems with your liver and even your brain, plus the toxins can cause your skin to age. If you do choose to indulge in a drink, make sure to stick to the serving size guidelines – 12 0z of beer, 5 oz. wine, and 1.5 oz. liquor. Women should only have one drink whereas men can go up to two.
Spending the day sitting
Sedentary behavior, like sitting at a desk or on the couch all day can cause a lot of problems for your health. Lack of movement and exercise can increase your risk of heart attacks, obesity, diabetes, cancer and depression. It’s very important to keep your body moving throughout your life. This doesn’t mean you have to run a marathon or go to the gym every day, it just means strive to be active – walking is a good start. If you have a desk job make sure you get up and move around every few moments when it’s possible.
Eating the wrong foods
Whatever you put into your body affects it in some way, food has the biggest impact on your health. It is important to get vitamins and nutrients into your system, but eating the wrong things can cause adverse side effects in your body. Consuming foods that are highly processed, contain a lot of sugar, and are full of saturated fat can age your body and increase your risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. Make the smart choice for your body and eat a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains healthy fats and protein.
Tanning
Not using proper sunscreen and tanning your skin is really unhealthy for your skin. Aside from creating age spots and wrinkles, too much UV exposure can also give you skin cancer. Make sure you avoid the sun in excess, especially if you are not wearing sunscreen or lots of clothes, to keep your skin looking fresh and prevent your body from aging faster than it should.
