(CMR) Giovanni McLean of East End has been recently promoted to director of the Public Works Department for the Village of Winnetka, Illinois where he has worked for over seven years.
Giovanni graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Soon after graduating Giovanni returned to Cayman and worked at Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd. as a T&D engineer II and then the T&D project manager. in multiple roles over 10 years with the company. Before relocating to the United States he was the System Operations Manager at CUC.
After relocating to the Chicago metropolitan area in 2013 with his family, Gio began his career at the Water & Electric Winnetka Company. In that role, he was responsible for assisting with the management of production and distribution of potable water and electricity for the Village of Winnetka and neighboring unincorporated areas of Cook County. Project procurement management for portable water and electrical distribution infrastructure assets and maintenance programs.
He quickly impressed management and was soon moved from distribution engineer to assistant director of Water and Electic in 2015. After being in that post for about six years he was just promoted again to the director position.
He is responsible for the operational functions of the Public Works Department, including street and bridge maintenance, sanitary sewer, refuse and yard waste, stormwater and drainage maintenance, public property, and fleet.
McLean is from East End and his parents are Brasley and Elsie McLean. He is married to Illinois native Christine McLean and the couple has two children together.
His family and close friends shared they are extremely proud of Gio’s success, but most of all he doesn’t forget his beloved Cayman Islands and humble beginnings as he continues to be the same humble and down-to-earth person he has always been.
