(CMR) 17-year-old Caymanian golfer, Aaron Jarvis has won the boys overall title at the South Florida Junior Open any nine shots at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. Jarvis plays for the Cayman Island’s national team and attends Leadbetter Junior Golf Academy.
He also finished 11th place in the Pinehurst Tournament in a field of 88 golfers at the 42nd Junior North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst, North Carolina earlier this month.
He shot 71 to finish at 6-under 20 with a six-shot lead after 36 holes. His only hiccup Friday was a double bogey on the final hole he finished just before play was stopped for the second time.
Sebastian Nachilly (72-216) of Jupiter was second, Tyler Mistretta (72-217) of North Palm Beach third and Noah Kent (79-221) of Naples fourth. Kent won the 13-15, age division.
The South Florida Junior Open, run by the South Florida PGA, is sponsored by the Honda Classic, the Boca Raton Championship, Don Law Golf Academy, Florida Golf Coast University PGA Golf Management, Loyal Auto Brokers, Junior Golf Hub, Nike Junior Golf Camps, OGIO, the Tee Times, the Fun Group at Mirasol and Titleist.
He trains at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy and attends The Crenshaw School, a college preparatory school in Gotha, Florida.
Previously he placed third at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships at Albany, Bahamas, and 10th at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships on the Blue Monster Course in Doral, Florida. Amazingly those wins last year were after his first year playing in the Boys 16-19 Category for both tournaments.
He wishes to become a professional golfer and will be vying for a golf scholarship to a Division 1 university in the states.
