(CMR) A police officer had his finger broken in the early morning hours after an incident with two suspects.
Reports are that around 3:44 am policer officers were on patrol in the vicinity of Goring Avenue and Harbour Drive in George Town. They observed three men who they believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance. One of the men was also found to have provided a false name to the officers.
Tman then tried to flee the location, and after a short foot pursuit was caught. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of giving a false name to police and consumption of a controlled drug: crack cocaine. He became combative and aggressive and whilst trying to escape, he injured one of the officers, causing a broken finger. He was transported to the George Town Hospital for treatment.
The man, age 26 of West Bay, was further arrested on suspicion of assault and failing to provide a specimen for drug testing. He remains in custody pending further investigation. The other two men made off before the arrival of other officers to assist.
The matter is under police investigation.
