(CMR) Two men who died in road fatalities within a 12-hour period in Bodden Town this weekend have now been identified by police.
Pedestrian Henry Schucair Robinson (65) was found unresponsive in the vicinity of Anton Bodden Drive on Sunday evening around 7:15 pm. Unconfirmed reports are that he was hit by multiple vehicles before he was discovered unresponsive. The matter is under investigation by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and officers are appealing for witnesses.
On Monday morning before 7:00 am, Shaun Ryan Newell (35) died after his motorcycle collided with a school bus on Shamrock Road near Mimosa Drive. Newell is from Jamaican and attended Old Harbour High School in Kingston. He resided here with his family and CMR understands he is survived by a six-year-old daughter. In this incident, the 39-year-old school bus driver man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Police said he has been granted bail as the investigation continues.
Police are also asking for eyewitnesses to this incident to come forward and have shared:
“Police are particularly interested in speaking with the drivers of two vehicles: one traveling towards Bodden Town in the eastbound lane, and one traveling towards George Town in the westbound lane, which stopped to let the school bus exit onto Shamrock Road from Mimosa Drive; as well as a female pedestrian who was standing at the intersection when the collision occurred.”
In a third motor vehicle incident, late Sunday evening around 11:30 pm officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian on Keturah Street in George Town. The pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and sustained injuries to his head and arm. He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment where he is believed to be in stable condition. Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle involved and conducted a roadside breath test. The man, age 37 of George Town, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He has been granted bail as investigations continue.
