(CMR) Dwayne Glasgow (54) was convicted of stealing a jack-hammer from the Cayman Islands Fire Service where he was employed as a maintenance technician.
He also was dismissed once the theft was discovered. He was caught after he had attempted to pawn the machinery and the fire service was tipped off. After admitting his crime, writing letters of apology and offering to cover the cost, he received a one-month jail term suspended for two years.
The court heard that Glasgow had taken the hammer when he was in severe financial difficulties and at a time when his family was facing a number of challenges, but claimed he had always planned to return it.
