(CMR) Corey Brown (32) from Cayman Brac was arrested on Tuesday, 6 August with over 1200 lbs of ganga worth at least $1 million CI dollars.
He has since been charged appeared in court today on charges of Importation of Ganja and Possession of Ganja.
Details are that just before 10:00 pm on Tuesday the Joint Marine Unit consisting of officers from the RCIPS and CBC, along with the Air Operations Unit were on border patrol duties.
About 11 miles off the shore of East End and within the Cayman Islands jurisdictional waters, the AOU spotted a boat that had one occupant and what appeared to be several packages on board. This raised the suspicions of the officers who then informed the Marine Vessel M. Luke. MV M. Luke made their way to the location using lights and siren and the vessel attempted to evade them, but was intercepted with the assistance of the AOU.
A search was conducted of the vessel and over 40 packages containing what the officers believed to be ganja was on board. Brown was arrested on suspicion of Importation of Ganja along with other drug related offense. The vessel and its contents were seized and an investigation was launched into the matter by.
