(CMR) In addition to current US routes, Cayman Airways is exploring non-stop service to one or more US West Coast destinations with its new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, Simple Flying has reported.
According to the website, which focuses on aviation, Cayman Airways has made a request to the US Department of Transportation for permission to fly to the US West Coast under the provisions of the US-UK Open Skies Agreement.
The West Coast includes the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii.
According to Simple Flying, the May 27 application reads, “With the new US – UK Open Skies Agreement now in place, Cayman Airways now seeks the additional authority granted to carriers of the United Kingdom under this agreement.”
Cayman Airways holds a US-issued foreign air carrier permit to fly to specific US ports under the former Bermuda II Agreement. But as a British Overseas Territory, the new (2020) US – UK Open Skies Agreement allows a far more liberal agreement than the old Bermuda II Agreement.
Cayman Airways is also asking for permission to transport people, property, and mail from points behind the United Kingdom via the United Kingdom and intermediate points to any point or points in the United States and beyond.
Permission is also being sought to operate foreign charter air transportation of cargo between any point or points in the United States and any other point or points, Simple Flying stated.
