(CMR) Countries in the Caribbean are monitoring two disturbances that could possibly develop over the next few days.
Several countries, including the Cayman Islands, continue to experience disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave located about 850 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. This disturbance has a 30-percent chance of forming over the next 48 hours but could see slow development by the weekend as it moves west-northwest. The system has a 40 percent chance of developing over the next five days.
Cayman's National Weather Service said scattered showers are expected over the Cayman area for the next 24 hours as an upper-level trough interacts with the tropical wave over the western Caribbean. Radar images show scattered showers over the Cayman Islands area moving northwest.
Forecasters are also watching showers associated with a tropical wave about 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system has a 10-percent chance of formation over the next 48 hours.
The next tropical storm to form would be known as Elsa.
