(CMR) The expansion of Caribbean Airlines into the region which includes a Jamaica and Cayman route remains uncertain as it was confirmed that the airline canceled the launch of direct flights from Kingston to Havanah yesterday without notifying customers.
Cayman Marl Road reached out ot Caribbean Airlines in early December have we heard from customers complaining that they were being told the Cayman route was not lunching again and they would be issued refunds and vouchers. However, their corporate office confirmed that:
“We will begin flights into Grand Cayman from the 17th December, 2019.”
Despite that, customers confirm that when they contacted the reservations line they were being informed by customer service agents that “no flights are coming.”
The following press released was issued yesterday regarding the Cayman route:
According to other sources, cancellation of the Jamaica – Cuba route was unannounced and according to Dionne Ligoure, manager of corporate communications there was an operational review underway and for now, the service was put on hold. Ligoure said that the scheduled route had been only announced – “not installed” – and that personnel was trying to expedite the process for resolving the grouses of affected travelers.
Persons affected should contact the airline to inquire about refunds. Caribbean Airlines is set to start flying to Cayman – Kingston route on Tuesday and had advertised numerous offers including free baggage and ticket layaway options.
Cuba is one of 22 destinations to which the carrier flies. Caribbean Airlines flies twice weekly to Cuba out of Trinidad and Tobago, with connections to other destinations. That route has been operational since January 13, 2018.
Their website has no mention of the cancellation of the Jamaica – Cuba route. According to their own press released they continued to show “strong financial performance for 2019”.
“Caribbean Airlines is pleased to report its unaudited summary financial results for January – September 2019, which show the airline continues to achieve an operating pro?t and is net income positive. The implementation of new technology, expansion of the airline’s route network, an increase in passenger demand and cargo business together with enhanced cost management; are some of the elements which contributed to the airline’s success over the period.”
