(CMR) MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Residents in Spalding, located on the border of Manchester and Clarendon, witnessed an incident yesterday that ended with a bus driver being shot by a police sergeant during a morning altercation.
Reports are that the driver, who was transporting students to school, was stopped for his documents to be checked. Upon seeing the documents, residents said, the policeman decided to put the vehicle on a wrecker. It was at this time that a dispute ensued and another policeman entered the fray and reportedly shot the driver.
Persons in the community described the bus operator as “beloved” and the incident immediately sparked protest by the gathering crowd. Several videos were taken at the time of the incident and immediately circulated on social media. CMR further understands that a police vehicle has been damaged and it's alleged that two police officers had to barricade themselves away from angry mobs in a Supermarket. They had to be rescued by colleagues.
It all started with an argument between the two which later developed into a tussle. The bus driver shoved the policeman and charged towards him when the cop pulled his firearm and fired shots. In an amateur video you can see the operator pushing away the police who later pulled his firearm and fired several shots. Members of the public can be seen immediately attending to the bus driver as he lay lifeless on the ground.
Its ALLEGED that the police who goes by the alias BROOKS has been transferred there recently and is an officer who's always picking on those operating PPV wherever he goes .
One resident described him as a “very hype and boomy police who only get up everyday to harass the man dem”.
It also emerged on social media that the officer and bus driver had a prior court case.
The injured man was taken to the hospital and we understand hebwas treated for his injuries and should be recovering. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is conducting a probe into the matter.
