(CMR) A bride and the caterer at her wedding are facing charges for allegedly lacing the food at the wedding with marijuana resulting in unsuspecting guests feeling sick and strange in February.
The bride, Danya Svoboda (42) and caterer Joycelyn Bryant (31) were arrested this week on charges of violating an anti-tampering law and delivery of cannabis.
County firefighters and deputies responded to the event at a clubhouse in Longwood, Florida, on 19 February after guests reported getting sick or feeling strange. Some people were so sick they went to the hospital, where they tested positive for THC, an active compound in marijuana.
Food collected from the wedding also tested positive for THC, and the bride also reportedly admitted that the food had marijuana.
A guest told the Washington Post that he had meatballs, Caesar salad, and bread with herb dip at his wife’s cousin’s wedding and then felt strange, tingly and fidgety.
The man said his sister-in-law also became dizzy and vomited up her dinner. Another guest said that after eating, she felt like her heart would stop. She went to her car and was so terrified she would die there, she sent herself a text so people would know what had happened to her.
If convicted, the bride and caterer could face up to five years and prison plus a $5,000 fine.
