(CMR) A woman is being sought after stealing a wallet from a George Town store and then returning it empty.
The video shows the thief around 11:09 am at the Small Deals Outlet (Julie's Club) in the Thompson Building on Main Street. At around 11:13 am she goes to look at watches and notices another female customer with her nephew in the vicinity. She places her wallet on the counter and then is distracted by her phone – eventually leaving both items on the left outer counter.
At around 11:19 the woman, wearing a yellow shirt, picks up the wallet and exits the store. At around 11:23 am she turns back into to store and cameras caught her placing the wallet back in the same position.
The store clerk, not realizing what occurred picks up the wallet and places it next to the register. When the customer realizes she has forgotten her wallet she returns to find it has been emptied and her cash was gone.
The victim is a young lady and was visibly distraught after finding her money gone. The child was said to be around 1-year old and she was in her early twenties. She was said to be crying and had to call a family member to pick her up from the store.
Store management was able to piece together precisely what happened after reviewing the surveillance cameras. The RCIPS were notified.
Store management shared:
“Upon which the cameras were reviewed and we are all in shock. This was a heartless act. As she was told where the wallet was found (in the same place she left it) she assumed that it was untouched as did my employees so she had to get an explanation of the missing cash. Thank God for security cameras. We hope that the culprit is caught and held accountable.”
Anyone with information on the identity of the female thief is asked to reach out.
