(CMR) The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) President, Roy Bodden, will be retiring in 2018 and the recruitment process has begun in earnest for a suitable replacement.
The UCCI Board of Governors had already indicated that they will be commencing the recruitment process in light of the planned retirement of Bodden. Bodden took up his appointment in October 2009.
They have indicated that before advertising the position they will be “consulting with stakeholders with respect to the position description for the next President.”
The statement further indicated that the strategic planning exercise was well underway but the next president will be expected to carry out the “final plan”. It appears that the vision for execution and delivery of that strategic plan is expected to change with the next president and there will be a focus on increasing external focus, establishing deeper relations with all external stakeholders and generating increased financial and people resources.
All UCCI stakeholders are being encouraged to comment on the position's description for the next president and contacting the board with any feedback by November 29th.
Bodden is a former politician, author and educator where he began his teaching career at George Town Primary. He had been quoted as previously saying his passion is as a educator and not politics and he had no intent to ever return to that political landscape. As UCCI president he took the reigns after what was called an exhaustive recruitment process with 130 applicants and the sudden departure of Hassan Syad who has since been convicted of theft and fraud against the university.
