(CMR) Police have now confirmed that a child has drowned earlier this evening.
This evening, Friday, 4 January, just before 6 PM, police responded to a residence off Austin Connolly Drive in East End regarding a report of a missing young child. Shortly after arrival police were informed that the child had been found by a family member in the water along the shoreline.
The child, a girl, just under two years old, was conveyed by ambulance to GTH, where she was pronounced dead.
The incident is under police investigation.
In other news, an American visitor also drowned yesterday on Seven Mile Beach.
Shortly before 2:00 pm on Thursday, 3 January, officers responded to a report of a person in distress in the water off Seven Mile Beach in the vicinity of Tanager Way. A man had been out on a snorkeling trip and lost consciousness while in the water. He was taken out of the water onto a nearby vessel where CPR was performed but remained unresponsive as he was taken back to shore.
He was met on shore by Emergency Services who transported him to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.
The man, age 60, is a visitor from the United States.
