(CMR) The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) has confirmed that an investigation is underway into an alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old Bodden Town boy; days after CMR covered the story.
They have confirmed that the child was admitted to the local hospital for medical treatment after the incident and is currently receiving further medical care in the US for injuries sustained during the alleged assault.
Exclusive CMR sources indicate that Miami Children’s hospital contacted the Miami Dade Police after realizing the seriousness of his injuries. They, in turn, contacted the RCIPS.
CMR sources indicate to us the incident likely happened on Tuesday and the child was sent via Cayman Airways to the Miami facility; after being assisted in a wheelchair. This matches closely with the timeline presented by the original CMR source. The message we received from that informant was on Friday, August 2nd.
It is also believed the politician alleged to be involved presented a cheque as hush money in the matter as CINICO would have covered said travel and medical expenses.
However, RCIPS press officer, Jodi-Ann Powery, commented on the matter during a Cayman 27 interview:
Despite the severity of the child’s injuries a man from Bodden Town, Gary Berry, indicated in a WhatsApp chat conversation that our original story was “Fake News” – using the term made popular by US President Donald Trump. He further stated that he was too much of a woman’s man to ever be involved in assaulting a child.
They are malicious and vindictive people trying to slander peoples good character.
Oddly, he denies that a sexual assault even took place and claims:
The boy in question has a mental illness and is currently receiving treatment for his illness. Nothing of a child being molested in BT bro…..
Berry is a staunch supporter of Bodden Town East MLA representative and Minister of Health Dwayne Seymour. He is also a director of the National Housing Development Trust board; one of the board’s under Seymour’s ministry. He was also appointed as a member of the Work Permit Board in 2009; after Seymour was elected as the third member of Bodden Town.
Berry also previously worked at the local boy’s home and owns several local businesses.
Should anyone have information that could assist the police in their investigations we strongly encourage you to contact the MASH unit or CrimeStoppers.
