(CMR) Opposition leader, Ezzard Miller has indicated that he is in full support of the removal of the OfReg chairman, Linford Pierson, after a CMR exclusive story last week. and he wonders if Anti-Corruption laws were breached.
According to CNS the opposition leader and chair of the public accounts committee joined other public calls, Tuesday, for the removal of the chair of the OfReg board after it was revealed in the CMR story that he had verbally threatened another board member.
He also revealed that that if what has been written in the minutes regarding the chair’s attempts to make himself CEO is also correct it certainly appears to fly in the face of anti-corruption legislation but also seems to be in violation of the public authorities law.
“Hopefully government is going to dismiss the chair,”
Miller told CNS, adding that the government must be feeling uncomfortable by what has been recorded in these minutes.
Thus far the government has made no comment on the minutes of the alleged current tumultuous environment at OfReg. Pierson noted that he had since apologized for his comments and all involved were now friends again.
The general public consensus is that Pierson should be removed as well as other board members who appear ill-equipped to deal with a strong and possibly rogue chairman.
One observer saw the irony in the situation sharing with CMR:
“Pierson is misguided at best. This isn't a friendship club. It's an appointment for which he is handsomely paid CI $4,500 per month. The out burst demonstrated in those minutes is beyond concerning. He should have never lost his temper over questions on correct procedure. Sounds an awful lot like what Alva Suckoo is now enduring in the Legislative Assembly. It appears to me that the old guards never go the memo that this type of behavior is no longer acceptable.”
The OfReg board has agreed to change the minutes in light of apologies being tendered and many are now wondering how that would be any different than what transpired with the Liquor Licensing Board and the Peanuts Gas Station application.
Own observer continued:
“Retired politicians seem to still garner political favor and given the benefit of a blind eye. This had to stop or we are in a lot of trouble as a country.”
