Following an editorial piece several weeks ago we can confirm that Cory Martinson from the the Cayman Islands Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) remains on administrative leave.
Martinson is the Senior Appeals and Policy Analyst for the Information Commissioner's office which is now part of the Ombudsmen office.
CMR sources indicated that his leave began earlier in the month but we have not been able to confirm how long he will be on leave for. Recently Martinson was before the local courts for multiple offenses but was able to pay administrative fines with no convictions recorded.
Information Commissioner Jan Liebars is Martinson's direct supervisor.
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson recently indicated that government employees will no longer be able to remain on paid administrative leave for long periods of time while court cases are pending. However, it is not clear whether this policy change will also impact statutory authorities and government agencies which operate under different legislation and procedures.
CMR has contacted Manderson for clarification.
