(CMR) Cayman Marl Road has just gotten confirmation of what we posted on our Facebook page yesterday – two Customs Warehouse employees were arrested.
CMR understands that the matter relates to an alleged theft of items from the warehouse including cellular phones. Our exclusive sources also indicate that the persons arrested are Rhymiech Keyon Adolphus and Danny Ebanks. Both have been at customs for many years and the news surprised a number of individuals.
Collector of Customs Charles Clifford has announced that two male Customs Warehouse employees were arrested yesterday, 5th September 2018, on suspicion of theft from the Customs Warehouse and related offences.
Ebanks is 48 years of age and is from the district of West Bay and has worked with customs for 25 years. Rhymiech is 31 years of age and is from the district of George Town with 12 years of service. The arrests were the result of a joint Customs and Police operation.
Mr. Clifford confirmed that the two employees have been placed on required leave.
The Collector thanked the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service for their partnership and for taking the lead on this investigation.
Mr. Clifford further confirmed that the two civilian employees remain in custody and that as this is an active investigation, no further comment will be made at this time.
September 7 RCIPS Update:
The two men who were arrested on Wednesday, 5 September, on suspicion of theft from the Customs Warehouse, have been formally charged with two counts of Theft each.
The men, age 48 of West Bay, and 31 of George Town, have been bailed to appear in court on Tuesday, 11 September.
