(CMR) Zunilda Anaya Baldovino (Zuny), a Colombian beautician has finally been found guilty today of two counts of reckless and negligent acts after a judge-alone trial. The twelve-month trial ended today with Baldovino originally being a no show in court and a warrant being issued for her immediate arrest.
Magistrate Philippa McFarlane delivered her judgment today in what was a long drawn out trial that had one of her victims frustrated with the judicial process. Baldovino was accused of injecting a dangerous substance into the faces of several women. One victim, Elizabeth Moya, spoke exclusively to CMR about the pain that she has endured as a result of the unauthorized procedures.
I will never get over this she changed my life, I have to look at my face every single day and the permanet scars that I have.
Victim – Elizabeth Moya
Baldovino was originally arrested in 2017 after Moya contacted the police when she suffered a severe infection as a result of the procedure. Moya has since had to have several surgeries to remove foreign objects from her face as well as take extreme antibiotics to control the infection.
Moya shared:
It doesn’t give me any pleasure to see anyone lose their freedom over something that could have been avoided, I’ve been thru a lot of suffering physically emotionally and mentally, am still in recovery after almost 3 years later. It's horrifying to know that I will never recover 100 percent because of the substance injected into my skin has caused permanent damage. All I wanted from the beginning was the truth and I feel I could have gotten help in time, until this day she still denies it. It’s sad to see it had taken these measures for the truth to be revealed, and hopefully, this can bring awareness and some sort of help to others.
Even after being originally arrested Baldovino continued to work illegally and also continued to treat other patients. It was alleged that the material she used to inject her patients were brought in from Honduras.
Baldovino claimed to have been injecting “vitamin and all-natural” treatments into her patient's faces but it now appears she was likely injecting them with silicone instead. Baldovino used the same vitamin excuse in her trial and noted that she had used it previously without any adverse effects.
A warrant was issued for Baldovino's arrest and she was arrested early today. Sentencing has been set for September 11.
CMR has it on good authority that a lot of other victims were too ashamed to step forward.
