(CMR) Cayman Airways aircraft – VP-CAY – that was involved in Sunday evening’s emergency landing will remain in Orlando for about 4 days before being sold month-end.
Exclusive CMR sources indicate that CAL sent up 2 mechanics today who will assist with the process of bringing the aircraft back.
All four emergency slides were deployed during the emergency landing. Now they have to be rolled back up and re-certified by the USA Department of Transporation. The cost of doing this is about $100,000 – $25,000 per slide/door.
The FAA does not allow any planes to take-off with “inoperable instruments”
The aged plane is almost 27-years old. CAL acquired it in November 2004 after seven previous owners. The Boeing 737-300 is said to have had a history of issues in recent time.
The aircraft will be taken out of commercial flight operation at the end of this month and sold to another company as a cargo plane.
The New York flight is due to return tonight around 11:36 pm.
