(CMR) In July Cayman Marl Road reported that Starbucks would be coming to Cayman and now we can further report that they are slated to take over the leased location from Cafe del Sol's Camana Bay store by year end.
Apparently, the owners of Cafe del Sol did not have their lease renewed after 11 years in a central location at Camana Bay and have informed local media that the location was to be occupied by Starbucks. Co-owner, Brad Bargman, told the Compass that: “Our lease is not being renewed and we have been told by management that Starbucks is coming in here”.
He said they had been offered other spots within Camana Bay, but nowhere that was suitable. However, Dart Real Estate would not confirm any ongoing negotiations with potential occupants.
Cafe del Sol will be moving into a new shopping plaza across from Countryside in Savannah.
Jamaican entrepreneurs Adam Stewart, the CEO of the Sandals hotel chain, and Ian Dear, who runs the Margaritaville restaurant franchise throughout the Caribbean, are behind the plan to bring Starbucks to the Caribbean. They have a franchise agreement through their company, Caribbean Coffee Baristas, and have already opened several stores in Jamaica.
We understand there are plans for three Starbucks stories in Cayman. Cafe del Sol currently has three locations as well.
