UPDATE: Police and other emergency services have been dispatched to a structural fire on Hirst Road, near the junction of Rex Crighton Boulevard. As a result of the fire on Hirst Road, the roadway has been closed to the public while the CIFS works to extinguish the fire.
Vehicles traveling on Hirst Road heading to Shamrock Road, are being diverted to Rex Crighton Boulevard (East-West Arterial Bypass). Vehicles heading into Hirst Road from Shamrock Road are being asked to continue on Shamrock and travel through Spotts Newlands Road if necessary.
The RCIPS encourages all road users to avoid the area if possible.

A house fire was reported this morning on Hirst Road in Newlands requiring the presence of multiple fire rescue services. A police roadblock has been set up to divert traffic away from the fire. Exclusive sources have shared that the cause of the fire is a water heater that “blew up”.
