(CMR) The Cayman Islands experienced a 4.4 magnitude earthquake around 11:50 a.m. it has been confirmed. The epicenter of the quake was 31.69 miles (51km) south of George Town, Grand Cayman in the ocean (18.844°N 81.415°W).
The 10 km deep earthquake was immediately felt but a number of people most in George Town and North Side.
Many persons reported feeling it and some buildings such as Walker's law firm in town saw staff evacuate during the quake.
Some reports have the quake at a 4.9 and others including the USGS website indicated that it was a 4.4 magnitude quake. Another site indicated it was 5.1. Regardless of the exact magnitude, many felt it firsthand. Some have said that there were initial readings followed by confirmation of it being a 4.4 and that may explain the variation in early reports:
