Cayman Marl Road has received several queries about a gun incident at the Layman E. Scott/Cayman Brac High School. We had been told that the matter was being kept “under wraps” because of who the children are connected to.
In keeping with good journalistic principles we reached out to the RCIPS and have been able to obtain the following statement from the Royal Cayman Islands Police:
Four juveniles, three male and one female, were arrested in September in connection with a single round of ammunition found on school premises on Cayman Brac. A full investigation is being carried out in the matter and a man who is the holder of a firearms license is also being investigated for negligence in securing ammunition.
We can advise that no police officer is implicated in the case that you mention; the man was a volunteer with the service in the past but is no longer active.
Officers have diligently and thoroughly executed their duties in investigating the matter and a file will be presented to the ODPP for a review and ruling as is done in all cases.
Cayman Marl Road will continue to monitor this case and provide any available updates.
