(CMR) A man arrested with his UK tv star girlfriend for breaking quarantine and attempting to flee Barbados last week was fined US$4,000 when he appeared in court on Friday.
Elliott Love, who decided to flee the island with Love Island star Zara Holland after he tested positive for COVID-19, was given a lesser fine despite his attempt to board a flight knowing he had the virus.
Holland was fined US$6,000 earlier this week and has since left the island.
When he appeared in court on Friday, Love was given a smaller fine because his lawyer successfully argued that he was not a celebrity.
He was ordered to pay $8,000 (US$4,000) or spend nine months in prison.
Love paid the fine and was expected to leave Barbados Friday evening.
Holland and Love, who arrived on the island from the UK, were tested for COVID-19 upon arrival to the island and told to stay in their hotel room until test results were returned.
Love’s result returned positive, and the couple was told they would be moved to a quarantine facility.
However, before they could be moved into the quarantine facility, they removed wrist bands that identified them as quarantining guests and left the hotel.
They were arrested as they attempted to board a flight to the UK.
