(CMR) Several days after an incident that saw boxing champion Charles “The Killa” Whittaker arrested, the operations manager of the gym has apologized for her part in the confrontation. The apology comes after numerous people in the community have been asking for her resignation and possible charges for her role in the incident.
In a letter to members, parents, coaches, and other stakeholders, Tracey Seymour apologized for the way she reacted to the incidents that occurred at the D Dalmain Ebanks Boxing Gymnasium earlier this week.
Seymour stated that the gym has always been a sanctuary where she felt safe and nurtured and that it has played a pivotal role in her life since she was 18.
“When given the opportunity to work there, I realized it still is that place, and it plays a fundamental role in the lives of many young people. I feel very passionately about the gym, the association, its programs, its members, and its values. It is so important to me to provide that same atmosphere to other young people and to uphold and instill the values of respect, inclusivity, tolerance, self-belief, and accountability,” she said.
“Unfortunately, I feel that my reaction to events which transpired does not represent those values. I cannot undo what was done, I can now only learn from this mistake. My aim is to become better and better embody the principles I believe in. To act as a better example and role model,” Seymour added.
“I cannot express enough how sorry I am, and my only hope is that you will not take my mistakes and cast it on the boxing gym. It truly is a sanctuary where all persons belong and should be able to feel safe and respected,” the letter ended.
