(CMR) It was a bloody weekend in Jamaica as the island recorded several violent incidents which resulted in the death of at least six people.
What is alarming is that some of the incidents were recorded in parishes, not known for violent flare-ups and others happened just meters away from soldiers stationed in the community as part of the zone of special operations (ZOSO).
Friday (June 26)
Two men were hacked to death, in separate incidents, in St. Mary.
In the first incident, a 36-year-old man and another man were chopped by unknown men in the community of Lewistore.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Delroy Williams of Lewistore district.
It is believed that Williams may have been involved in a dispute at work.
In the second incident, the deceased 55-year-old Paul Forrest of Highgate in St Mary was stabbed by a man who had employed him to do some work at the home of another.
It is alleged that the work was not executed properly and as a result, a man confronted Forrest on a roadway.
The dispute escalated and Forrest was stabbed in the upper body. Forrest died while being treated at the hospital.
Saturday (June 27)
Two women were gunned down within the span of a few hours in separate incidents in the West Kingston community of Rema.
The first incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. when the deceased identified as Tamara Phipps was walking along a roadway along with other persons. Gunmen pulled up on the group and Phipps was shot.
In the second incident which happened around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday morning, the deceased, identified as ShanaKay Ebanks, was in bed. It is reported that gunmen raided the home and shot Ebanks and her partner.
Early reports are that the incidents are targeted attacks.
Sunday (June 28)
A woman was shot dead in a gun attack in Westmoreland. Popular dancehall entertainer Rygin King was injured in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Sashalee Blackwood of an Irwin Meadows, St James, address.
Reports are that at around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday the entertainer was travelling in a group of three other motor vehicles when the group stopped to allow for the repair of one of the vehicles.
The occupants of the vehicles are said to have converged along the roadway as repairs were being done when a silver motor vehicle drove up and men aboard the vehicle started shooting.
The 25-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Matthew Smith, was shot along with two others, they are in the hospital recovering from their injuries
