(CMR) A hard curfew for all public beaches has been extended until Friday, April 17 according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Derek Byrnes. Anyone in breach of the curfew order will be subjected to a $3,000 fine and/or one-year imprisonment per section 49(1) Police Law.
This new change means that no activity is allowed from the high water mark which would include shore fishing.
He also indicated that as of today the RCIPS now has the power to issue tickets instead of “warning persons for prosecution”.
The Premier encouraged people to stay the course and continue to stay home unless absolutely necessary. He supported the closure of the beaches and encouraged people to still inside. He indicated that by next week they should have a further update on the matter of pensions.
The governor indicated that everything must change in order for our lives to remain how they were before the COVID-19 outbreak. He also shared some words of support for the Minister of Health after he came under some pressure over the weekend when he insisted a journalist be arrested for comments on their news platform.
For his part, Minister of Health Dwayne Seymour said he's the trailblazer for 90% of the people out there. He quoted his usual bible verses and attempted to speak in several languages including Arabic. Minister Seymour spoke at length about what his ministry has put in place for front line workers and their efforts to flatten the curve.
The premier also indicated that we would have to go a minimum of 14-days with no new cases after extensive testing is deployed of all front line staff and all known contacts of currently infected persons before we can feel safe to re-start the local economy.
