from DOE: A beached whale was reported Saturday morning by a member of the public. DoE Conservation Officers, Research Officers, and Interns documented the stranding and collected samples for further analysis. Beaked whales are an oceanic species but DoE has documented sightings and standings in the past which give us some insight into their occurrence and distribution.
CMR sources have informed us that the whale was found in the Cayman Kai area of the island.
In addition to the whale, there were also 4 turtles washed ashore (all alive and have been released). The DOE asks members of the public to report any marine mammal sightings or stranding to DoE by email at [email protected] or by posting to our sharks and cetaceans Facebook page.
