(CMR) Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Dr Hubert Minnis, in a statement late Thursday (October 22) denied allegations that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Speculation was ripe that the Prime Minister may have contracted the deadly virus after a member of his cabinet tested positive, forcing Minnis along with others into self-isolation.
Despite being in isolation, Minnis in his statement said that to date he has had four COVID-19 tests, all of which showed negative results.
The statement further said that the PM continues to carry out his daily functions and has only been placed in isolation due to a potential exposure.
Desmond Bannister,Minister of Public Works, tested positive for the virus which has infected more than 6,100 Bahamians, just days after he attended a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
The possible exposure forced all Cabinet Ministers, including the Prime Minister, into self-quarantine.
