(CMR) A 5-month-old Brazilian baby was released from hospital after he spent close to a month in a coronavirus induced coma.
Baby Dom was diagnosed shortly after he was born at the Pro-Cardiaco Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
While it remains unclear how the baby contracted the virus, it is speculated that he may have been exposed at a visit with a relative
The father of the baby, Wagner Andrade, told CNN that his wife heard the baby breathing strangely and reached out to doctors.
According to Andrade, following a video call with a physician they were initially told that the baby had a bacterial infection.
However, when Andrade and his wife decided to take the baby to the hospital, the baby was tested and it was discovered he was positive for coronavirus.
Baby Dom spent a total of 54 days in the hospital 32 of them in an induced coma.
Andrade and family are happy that the baby, who turns 6-months old on June 15, will be celebrating the milestone at home.
