(CMR) The funeral for assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise will be held on 23 July in the northern city of Cape Haitian, where he was born. Moise will be buried beside his father.
President Moise was killed when armed men entered his private residence on 7 July, opening fire hitting both him and his wife. His wife Martine Moise, who was seriously injured in the attack and who was flown to Florida for medical treatment, is expected to attend the funeral.
At least 28 men, including two Haitian-Americans and several Columbians, have been arrested in connection with the killing.
A funeral planning committee has indicated that they are taking steps to ensure the president received an official ceremony.
“We have a logistical team who will evaluate the site where the funeral will be held,” Minister of Culture and Communication Pradel Anriquez, a member of the committee, told reporters.
Anriquez said there are three events planned. On 20 July, an official ceremony honoring the life of Moise will be held at the MUPANAH. On 22 July, the president's wake will be held.
“The public funeral of the president of the republic will be held in accordance with the wishes of the Moise family and also in accordance with the law,” Anriquez stated.
