(CMR) Despite plans announced for confederate era statues and monuments to be removed, protestors in the United States aren't waiting for officials.
This comes just days after a statue of Christopher Columbus in Virginia's state capital was toppled and thrown into a nearby lake.
The statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis in Richmond, Virgina is the latest monument to be hauled down by anti-racism protestors on Wednesday (June 10).
Local police who were called to the scene on Richmond's famed Monument Avenue sealed off the area in which the toppled statue laid, as a crowd of bystanders cheered.
Several states have announced plans to remove Confederate-era statues and monuments, as Black Live Matter (BLM) protests spread across the nation following the death of 46-year-old George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis after a white police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck.
Several statutes and monuments have been defaced and toppled in the state and it is not just in the US, BLM protestors in London have also taken similar actions.
