(CMR) The Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands has decided to keep all schools closed for the remainder of the 2019/2020 academic year. This directive covers all child care, summer camps, tutoring centers, summer camps, technical and vocational training centers and colleges and universities.
This is according to a letter circulated Acting Chief Officer, Lynette Monteith late today who confirmed that the minister was prepared to continue to invoke section 13(5) of the Education Law (2016).
That section of the law gives the minister the power, with the advice of Hazard Management, to close all schools due to potential health and safety risks.
The memo encouraged learning institutions to continue to deploy online and distance learning mechanisms to ensure children are able to continue to learn.
The question of ongoing tuition and fee payment has been of grave concern for many parents as they deal with the financial strains of COVID-19.
