(CMR) Host of gameshow “Jeopardy” Alex Trebek has died. Trebek, 80, died after battling pancreatic cancer.
“‘Jeopardy!’ is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” read a tweet from the official “Jeopardy!” Twitter account .
In 2019, Trebek revealed he had been diagnosed with Stage Four pancreatic cancer.
“I have lived a good life, a full life and I’m nearing the end of that life,” he told USA Today in October 2019.
Trebek is most known for his role as the host of the long-running quiz which he began hosting in 1984.
At the time of his death, Trebek had presided over more than 8,000 episodes of the beloved program, and he had planned to remain host of Jeopardy! until at least 2022, when his contract was set to expire.
