(CMR) 81 community positive cases were confirmed over the weekend according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee including 13 children. Two travelers also tested positive on exit from quarantine out of the 1,646 tests conducted since Friday's report.
Dr. Lee noted that these are three days’ worth of test results being reported today.
He said, “Obviously, these results are since Friday morning's report so that's an average of around 27 people positive per day over the weekend.”
Public Health authorities are monitoring the level of hospitalizations and severe symptoms as compared to the overall number of positive cases.
Dr. Lee said, “There are two admissions of people positive for SARS‐CoV‐2 currently to the Health Services Authority hospital in George Town. One we know has been there since early September and one was admitted for an unrelated matter yesterday. The other person who was admitted previously has now been discharged home.”
The Chief Medical Officer noted the importance of staying at home if positive in order to slow the rate of progression of the virus through the community.
He said, “Please can I remind people that if you have a positive PCR test or you have a positive lateral flow test to remain at home and do not leave the home with your household contacts until such time as you've discussed with Public Health the next steps forward. If you're positive you will need to isolate, but please contact Public Health on further advice about what to do with the other people in the household.”
Dr. Lee also advised that “Further information will come as we move forward relating to the rollout of lateral flow tests.”

The Isolation Support Line’s operational hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Calls on Saturday and Sunday will be forwarded to the Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) Duty Officer.
The Chief Medical Officer’s daily update also provided vaccination numbers as per usual.
To date, there have been 112,874 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 56,241 (79% of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 54,030 (76%) have completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 2,603 (representing 14% of those over the age of 50) have had a third or booster dose.
Public Health is reminding the community of the importance of continuing vigilance about COVID-19 safety practices, including wearing a mask, washing your hands, getting vaccinated and getting a booster shot if eligible.
