(CMR) Eldon Nixon (75), from George Town, died on Saturday after experiencing difficulties while swimming at Smiths Cove.
Mr. Nixon was known to ride his bike to the beach daily, where he ate fruits and took a swim. On Saturday afternoon, he arrived as usual on his bicycle and eyewitnesses observed him walking down the beach with a cane in his hand. He then sat on the sand and started eating some bananas before getting in the water. Shortly after that they shared that he “started rolling in the water” and appeared to be in some distress.
There were several persons there who immediately assisted him including a Caymanian gentleman and several tourists medical RNs and medical assistants from San Francisco also performed CPR on him whilst others contacted 911.
Police reports are that shortly after 3:00 PM, emergency services were dispatched to a report of a person in distress at Smiths Cove, George Town.
Mr. Nixon had been swimming in the water when he experienced difficulties and became unresponsive. He was brought back to shore by persons on the scene.
Emergency services attended the man, and he was transported to George Town Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.
