(CMR) A 15,000 square foot Bodden Town residence boasting the island's largest private pool is up for sale for $29 million according to Bloomberg. The amazing eco-friendly custom-built property has a 100-foot-long pool and amenities fit for a king.
The house took some four years to build and has spared no detail in terms of design and materials. From kitchen cabinets made in Italy to the 18-foot elevation to protect from possible storm surges, it was meant to be the home of a lifetime for Belgium businessman Michael Maes and his family.
Looking for a more relaxed vibe more in tuned with nature he picked the Cayman Islands over several other locations including Hong Kong, Singapore, Monaco, Andorra and Vanuatu. The anticipated built time went from 18 months to four years but appears to have been well worth the arduous journey.
Described as “contemporary, minimalistic, and very bright” it sits on six-and-a-half acres of prime real estate with 540 feet of private beach frontage, said to be one of the largest in Grand Cayman Cayman. Keeping his ultimate goal of incorporating eco-friendly construction it is built to take full advantage of the wind that passes through the house. Every room is said to have an unobstructed view of the beautiful Caribbean ocean.

Maes, a professional wildlife cinematographer, is ready to now move back to Europe after living in the house for only a few years. He explained that work obligations are calling him back to Europe more now.
Cayman Islands Sotheby's International Realty is the listing agent for the property.
