(CMR) A man has been charged in an apparent hate crime against two men who were attacked outside the Strand Complex last year. Derrick Osney Bush was reportedly charged last week with two counts of Assault GBH and is to appear in court on June 22.
It was reported that two men were in a vehicle in the Strand Complex parking lot on January 3, 2022, when they were approached by two other men who made homophobic remarks towards them. The men who made the remarks assaulted the first two men, kicking and punching them repeatedly. One of the men had his nose broken during the attack.
Bush, who was arrested in relation to the matter last January, was charged last week as members of the LGBTQ community expressed concerns that over a year after the crime, no one was charged.
Following the incident, an anonymous philanthropist contacted CMR to share that he would be offering a $10,000 reward for the capture and conviction of the two men responsible for the vicious attack.
