(CMR) A tide gauge located at Panama Canal Creek in the Cayman Brac has been damaged as thieves cut several wires on the device and made off with its antenna, solar panel and two marine batteries.
Police reports are that shortly before 2:20 PM yesterday, 18 May, officers in Cayman Brac responded to a report of damage to property and theft at Panama Canal Creek. It was reported that the tide gauge at the location had gone offline, and when staff attended to make checks, they found that the lock on the device’s casing had been tampered with and entry had been gained into the device. The device was damaged with several wires cut. In addition, the device’s antenna, solar panel, and two marine batteries had been stolen.
