(CMR) As the police appeal for witnesses to an armed robbery and shooting at Bananas on Eastern Avenue, the RCIPS is reminding the public that there is a reward of up to $50,000 given by Cayman Crime Stoppers for tips that lead to an arrest and charge in a firearm-related incident.
Police reports are that just after 3 am today, Thursday, 18 May, police and other emergency services were dispatched to liquor-licensed premises located on Eastern Avenue, where it was reported that a shooting incident had taken place.
It was reported that following a dispute inside the bar, a masked man armed with a firearm approached the victim as he went to leave in his vehicle and demanded his valuables. The man used the door of his vehicle to push past the robber and ran from his vehicle in the direction of the bar, at which time the man fired at him. The armed man chased the victim back inside the bar before leaving and stealing the victim's motor vehicle.
No one at the location reported any injuries to the police as a result of this incident. The vehicle was later located by the police and recovered as evidence. No suspects have been located at this time.
This incident is being investigated by the police, and detectives are appealing for witnesses who were present at the time to come forward and provide information that may assist the investigation.
