(CMR) A 43-year-old Bodden Town man whose vehicle collided with a fire truck in an attempt to flee the scene of a car fire has been charged with arson and harassment, alarm or distress.
According to the RCIPS, just after 2 pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of a vehicle fire at an address in Bodden Town.
It was reported that the fire was believed to have been deliberately set, and officers from the Cayman Islands Fire Service attended the location and extinguished the fire. The fire officers also conducted investigations which confirmed that incident to be arson.
The Bodden Town man who attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle collided with the fire truck. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of arson and other offenses in relation to this incident, including several traffic offenses.
He appeared in court on Friday, May 5, and was remanded until Tuesday, 16 May.
Just this past weekend, the police responded to two incidents of fire being set to cars in George Town.
