(CMR) The Cayman Islands was well represented at the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla by Governor Jane Owen, Premier Hon. Wayne Panton and other representatives who attended the event, held at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6.
Commenting on her attendance at the Coronation, Governor Owen stated that it was an honor to join the Premier and other representatives at the event, especially as she recently assumed the role of Governor of the Cayman Islands a few weeks ago:
“Cayman were well represented in London with officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and the Cayman Islands Regiment taking part in the proceedings. This is the start of a new era in which I very much hope the strong relationship between Cayman and the United Kingdom continues to grow,” Her Excellency said.
Premier Panton also expressed his pride in having witnessed the historic moment, which gave him “a sense of renewed hope in our country and historical ties with the United Kingdom.”
“It was an honor to represent the Government and people of the Cayman Islands at the coronation of the King and Queen Consort. May King Charles’ reign be long and successful, distinguished by his commitment to advancing the principles of sustainability in the Overseas Territories and the wider Commonwealth of Nations.” Premier Panton concluded.

As the Coronation celebrations come to a close, the remainder of Governor Owen and Premier Panton’s visit to the UK will be focused on conferences, bilateral meetings, and, most notably, the annual Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council Plenary.
