(CMR) As of Thursday, May 11, visitors to the United States will no longer have to show proof of COVID vaccination when arriving in the country. The US will lift the requirement, coinciding with the end of the coronavirus public health emergency in the country.
In a statement on Monday, the White House said, “We are now in a different phase of our response when these measures are no longer necessary.”
This means starting May 12, noncitizen nonimmigrant air passengers will no longer need to show proof of being fully vaccinated with an accepted COVID-19 vaccine to board a flight to the United States.
This announcement comes as the World Health Organization's declared that COVID was no longer a global health emergency. The Biden Administration also announced that it would end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees and Federal contractors at the end of the day on May 11.
Since January 2021, COVID-19 deaths have declined by 95%, and hospitalizations are down nearly 91% in the US. Globally, COVID-19 deaths are at their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic. Nearly 270 million Americans have received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
