(CMR) Google Pay is now available in the Cayman Islands, with Butterfield Bank making this contactless payment option available to its clients.
Google Pay is designed for Android users and allows customers to conveniently and securely pay for purchases both in-store and online. Butterfield is the first local card issuer to offer Google Pay, available on both Android and WearOS devices.
Butterfield explained that in-person transactions work the same way as any other contactless/tap transaction. Just place your Android device next to the payment terminal at your favorite merchants, and you’re on your way! With Google Pay, there is no need for a physical card.
The maximum limit per transaction is CI $100.00, and up to 30 transactions per day.
Get Started with Google Pay:
-Make sure you have a valid Google account
-Download the Google Wallet™ app from Google Play™ onto any Android/Google smartphone
-Add your Butterfield Credit or Debit card by selecting “add to wallet” and then “payment card.” Follow the remaining steps to register your card. Once your card has been activated, you can use your phone to pay for goods or services.
The SMS activation option is not currently available for the Cayman Islands. Cardholders should use the e-mail or call center options.
Meantime, iPhone users are disappointed that Google Pay will not work for them. Many had expressed that they were happy hearing of the contactless payment option before they realized it would not work for them.
