(CMR) The Cayman Islands welcomed Governor Designate Jane Owen earlier today, Friday, 21 April. She is being sworn in this afternoon and has a full schedule ahead.
The Governor Designate arrived earlier this morning at the Owen Roberts International Airport, where she was introduced to Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson – who has been Acting Governor since the departure of the former Governor, Martyn Roper, in March 2023. Upon her arrival, the Governor Designate proceeded to the dais, where she received a General Salute from the Guard of Honour as a general greeting and mark of respect.
The Deputy Governor then introduced her to the Members of Parliament, including Premier Hon. Wayne Panton, Deputy Premier Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Roy McTaggart, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Hon. Joey Hew and Members of the Opposition, Ministers of Cabinet and Parliamentary Secretaries. Also in attendance were Attorney General Mr. Samuel L. Bulgin, KC, Chief Justice Hon. Margaret Ramsey-Hale, and Cabinet Secretary Mr. Samuel Rose.

A Swearing-In ceremony is scheduled for today, 21 April, at the House of Parliament starting 2:00 p.m., where Mrs. Owen will be officially sworn in as the 15th Governor of the Cayman Islands. The Governor will spend her first week in a series of introductory meetings with Cabinet and senior government officials.
A special reception hosted by Premier Hon. Wayne Panton in honor of Her Excellency will take place at Pedro St. James on Saturday, 22 April.
