(CMR) A 26-year-old man from George Town has been formally charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, in relation to a shooting on 9 March at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Shedden Road.
The man was arrested on Tuesday, 18 April, and appeared in court on Wednesday where he was granted bail with strict conditions, pending a further appearance on 16 May.
Reports are that the man approached another man known to him, brandished a firearm, and fired a single shot at him. However, the man was not shot.
Last year there was an increase in gun-related crimes, with 95 incidents recorded. A firearm was discharged in 26 of the offenses. Victims were shot and injured in 8, including three fatalities. Suspects have been identified in 55 crimes.
