(CMR) The Cayman Islands Athletic Association has retracted a statement that reportedly offered an apology to Lacee Barnes Riley on Thursday.
According to a letter from the organization's president Delroy Murray, “the Statement issued on our behalf contained in a Release this morning contains a number of inaccuracies and as such, we withdraw the same.”
“We will shortly be issuing a Statement setting out in chronological order, supported with the relevant supporting documents and communication between us and the LOC and NACAC, the series of events leading to the situation we have been placed in with the unfounded allegations of Ms. Barnes. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the letter continued.

In another correspondence obtained by CMR, Mr. Murray said he had heard calls for his resignation, but he “will not yield to the clamor of a misinformed public.
“I wish nothing but the best for our young athletes and for the Association and express the honor I feel for leading the body since November 2021 and hope to complete the mission the Executive endorsed in November 2021. Have we made mistakes? Yes, we have, but I dare anyone to honestly say that the sports of track and field have been in better hands in the past decade,” he added.
