(CMR) A Jamaican man reportedly stabbed his 17-year-old daughter to death during a dispute at their home in Kingston Sunday morning, April 2.
Dead is Shedeque Calvert of Barry Street in Kingston, while her father is on the run.
Reports are that the father and daughter had an argument at about 1:10 am when a knife was used to inflict a wound to Shedeque’s chest. She was taken to the hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.
The child's aunt told the Jamaica Star that Shedeque was an only child who her father loved. However, she said the father was very strict, which often resulted in the two having disagreements.
According to reports, Shedeque and her boyfriend had an altercation after midnight, and the teen's father heard about it and went in search of her. It is unclear what transpired, but she was seen lying motionless on the ground.
She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“Her father is a very strict person, but she wanted to have her own way. Him always has a problem when she leaves the yard without permission. There were times when she would sleep out, bleach out her face, and him nuh like [those things]. He is a very good father, and the entire community will tell you that. But she was just very stubborn and nuh like listen,” the aunt told the Star.
She said the girl's father was never abusive.
